Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday said the increase in age limit for recruitment to defence forces under the Agnipath scheme from 21 to 23 years shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi is sensitive to the needs of people.

As the recruitment process in the armed forces was affected in the last two years due to the pandemic, the Prime Minister has relaxed the upper age limit for recruitment through the Agnipath scheme in the first year of recruitment from 21 to 23 years.

"It will benefit a large number of youth. They will march gloriously on the path of service to the motherland and carve a bright future for themselves," Bommai said in a tweet, while thanking the PM for the relaxation in the age limit.

His comments come in response to protests and violence in parts of the country in protest against the scheme.
