‘Abuse of elders is non-bailable offence’

Mysuru: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) member-secretary and civil judge Devaraja Bhute on Wednesday said abuse of elders is a non-bailable offence and attracts severe punishment.
After inaugurating World Elder Abuse Awareness Day-2022 in Mysuru on Wednesday, near Devaraja Market, judge Devaraja said it is sad that Elder Abuse Awareness Day is being organised. “Today senior citizens are being abused in a society where Shravana Kumar has shown how to respect and care for elders,” he said.
To address such problems, Elder line 14567, a toll-free number has been set up and senior citizens may contact for any help, said district disabled welfare officer R Malini. tnn
