Mysuru cops arrest four youths for chain snatching

MYSURU: Four chain snatchers have landed in the police net after two of them were arrested on suspicion. Their arrests have helped city police in uncovering seven cases of chain snatching in Mysuru city in the last few months.
The Vidyaranyapuram police have recovered seven gold chains, three two-wheelers, and five smartphones from the arrested members of the gang. The value of the properties recovered from the arrested four members including stolen gold weighing about 300 gram is worth Rs 13.5 lakh.
Police have formed teams after a chain snatching was reported on May 30 by Vidyaranyapuram cops. Five days later, two youths roaming suspiciously on the ring road near Srirampura were detained and quizzed. To their surprise, cops were able to get a clue about chain snatchings reported in Mysuru. Then police also arrested two of their other accomplices, a week later, following a tip-off. They were robbing women of their gold chains while they were alone in public places.
Two cases of chain snatching each in Kuvempunagar and Vidyaranyapuram police stations, and one each in Saraswathipuram, Vijayanagar, and Lakshmipuram have been solved.
The prime accused in the case is a known offender and is facing criminal charges under various sections of IPC including cheating and bike lifting.
