GREATER NOIDA: Police arrested five persons allegedly involved in
vehicle lifting from Bilaspur Road in the Dankaur area on Tuesday. The five are Gabbar, Bhanu Pratap Singh,
Irfan Kareem, Deepak Kumar and
Rohit Kumar.
According to the accused, they learned hacking cars by watching tutorials on YouTube. Police have recovered three stolen cars, five car keys, fake number plates, four microchips and other electronic tools from them. “The accused were involved in stealing two
Maruti Swift cars on the intervening night of May 29 and 30 from Alpha-2 of Greater Noida. Police teams were deployed to track and trace the accused. Chasing the gang with the help of
CCTV footage and surveillance led the team to Indore where it got information regarding the accused . After tracing footage of nearly 500 CCTV cameras, police nabbed the accused from Dankaur on Tuesday evening, along with three stolen cars,” said Anil Kumar, in-charge of Beta-2 police station.
The three stolen cars are of Maruti Swift make. While two were stolen from Alpha-2 sector, one was stolen from Bisrakh area of Greater Noida, cops said. “The accused bought a device called X-Tool, which is used to hack computer systems of cars, especially Maruti Swift. It is like a USB cable, which is plugged into the car from its bottom end, behind the steering wheel. The device copies all data from the car and creates a duplicate/ master key then used to unlock the car. The process takes 15 minutes,” said DCP Meenakshi Katyayan .
She said all the accused have criminal history and earlier used to commit petty theft crimes. They had only recently learned to hack cars through electronic devices. A sixth accomplice and alleged mastermind of the gang, Mohit, is still on the run. “Mohit is a resident of Vijaynagar in Ghaziabad and is the mastermind of the gang. He has several cases filed against him in nearby districts. Our team is on the lookout for him,” she said.
