Ludhiana: A 13-member board has been constituted for ward delimitation, the process of which has already started ahead of MC elections expected to be held in the next few months. The first meeting of this board will be held next week in Chandigarh.
The board will comprise mayor, deputy commissioner, MLAs of areas under MC limits, ADC (urban development), additional commissioner of MC and two residents,
Davinder Singh from
New Shakti Nagar and Parminder Singh from
Passi Nagar. Besides, officials at local level have been told to include five councillors from various political parties in the process.
Already the officials have kicked off the process to finalise the wards according to the new delimitation. Sources said, “The number of wards will not be increased, but political parties are opposing the delimitation as it was done in 2017.” The parties claimed that AAP leaders want to take hold of MC for which such tactics are being adopted. The councillors are also worried about their vote bank because in ward delimitation number of voters will change for each ward. The MC has taken staff through outsourcing for ward delimitation and officials have been told to complete the process as soon as possible.
