Uttar Pradesh: Wanted woman in 2021 Manappuram gold heist in Agra arrested

AGRA: Almost a year after the sensational Manappuram gold heist, in which 15.5kg gold ornaments worth Rs 7 crore and Rs 6 lakh cash were looted from Agra’s Kamla Nagar branch, a woman suspect carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 was arrested on Thursday.
Police recovered 100 grams of gold from the possession of the accused, Meenu Bhardwaj, a resident of Firozabad.
SP (city) Vikas Kumar said that total 20 persons have been arrested in the case till date. Bhardwaj was the last suspect involved in the loot. “We have recovered 15.250kg gold,” he claimed.
The main accused, Narendra alias Lala, was arrested from South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal in February this year. Two co-accused, Lala’s brother Arun Kumar and mother, Rajkumari -- carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 each -- have also been arrested, said police. Two of the assailants—Manish Pandey and Nirdosh Kumar were shot dead in an encounter with the police, two hours after a sensational daylight robber.
On July 17, 2021, armed men wearing masks entered the office of Manappuram gold loan finance firm, took the staff hostage and decamped with gold and cash. Five days after the shootout of the two suspects, another accused, Prabhat Sharma, had surrendered at Kamla Nagar police station in Agra.
