Ludhiana: Punjab basketball girls won the gold medal, while the boys received the silver in the just concluded
Khelo India Games in Panchkula. Nine of the 12 champion girls and eight of the 12 runners-up boys were from Ludhiana district.
The girls’ team defeated
Tamil Nadu for the gold medal, while the Punjab boys missed the top spot by the narrowest of margins, when the final ended with a scoreline of 90-91 in favour of Kerala. Saloni and Ravinder Gill coached the girls, while Rajinder Singh and Sukhvinder Singh coached the boys. The runner-up boys included Nawaz Singh Panaich, Karandeep Singh,
Rahul, Kavi Imanjot,
Vishal Sharma, Tarunpreet Singh, Jashandeep Singh Brar, Jashandeep Singh, Satveer Singh, Arshjot Singh, Harmanjot Singh Cheema, and Karan Saini.
The District Basketball Association also praised the coaches and players for their hard work. Punjab Basketball Association general secretary
Teja Singh Dhaliwal said: “Punjab has always performed well in team games such as basketball.
The girls had scoreline of 75-45 versus Karnataka, 72-49 versus Haryana, and 72-60 against Kerala in the league stage, while they beat Rajasthan 74-46 in the semifinals and Tamil Nadu 68-57 in the final match.
