The Pillur III drinking water scheme will be completed by March next year, said municipal administration minister K N Nehru. The scheme aims to meet the drinking water needs of the projected population of the city in 2040. It was taken up in 2019 at a cost of 740.15 crore.After inspecting the works carried out for the scheme, the minister told reporters on Wednesday that there were some difficulties in acquiring land required for carrying out headworks and assured that those issues will be solved.

The government has revived the Thiruninravur-Thiruvallur road expansion work, which came to a halt seven years ago due to land acquisition issues.Once the 18-km stretch is converted into a six-lane highway, Tirupati-bound vehicles from Chennai can skip the congested roads in Thiruvallur district and take the bypass road (part of the said expansion project) instead.

Delayed road widening work leaves 6-km stretch in chaos in Chennai

Commuters between Velachery and Tambaram can now speed over crowded Medavakkam thanks to the flyovers that were opened recently. But they still get stuck on the sixkm stretch between Medavakkam and Kamakshi hospital at Pallikaranai. It’s all because there’s a one-km stretch where the road hasn’t been widened.During the peak morning and evening hours, motorists take up to an hour to cross the six-km stretch, said Vidyasagar Jagdeesan, a resident of Pallikaranai.

Tamil Nadu: Mutharaiyar, vanniyar men clash, 34 arrested

A series of incidents following a clash between mutharaiyar and vanniyar community youths at a temple festival in Rajagiri village near Kumbakonam late on Tuesday left a sub-inspector of police injured, huts burnt and vehicles damaged. Papanasam police on Wednesday arrested 17 people from each community in this connection.It all started when mutharaiyar community members took out a procession of Karagam of Karimel Ayyanar temple at Rajagiri village on Monday evening. As the procession reached Naicker street, three peoople belonging to vanniyar community threw stones on the Karagam. Police said the three were under the influence of alcohol. The incident led to a clash in which five people from mutharaiyar community sustained minor injuries. A small posse of police was deployed at the village and investigation began.

The Edappadi K Palaniswami camp continued to flex its muscles, pushing for a single leadership for the AIADMK and tried to convince party coordinator O Panneerselvam to agree to passing a resolution at the general council meeting scheduled for June 23, multiple sources told TOI.Irked OPS supporters splashed posters in support of the leader in various parts of the state, including Chennai, Theni and Ramanathapuram. A group of supporters sat in protest on the roadnear OPS’s residence on Greenways Road in Chennai against unidentified persons tearing down the OPS posters. Taking to Twitter, OPS said, “I kindly request all cadres of AIADMK to remain calm. ”
