CHHAPRA: Agitated youth ran amok in Chhapra town for about six hours on Thursday morning against the Agnipath scheme.
The mob ransacked the railway station, few important trains and arson at a roundabout in the town. They also damaged the residence of Chhapra BJP MLA Dr C N Gupta.
The crowd pelted stones on platform number 2, 3 and 5 at the railway station. Considering the gravity of the situation, the rail police resorted to aerial firing to disperse the crowd.
Saran DM Rajesh Meena and SP Santosh Kumar rushed to the station with adequate police force and succeeded in dispersing the crowd after two hours. “The guilty persons would be taken to task and sent to jail,” the SP said.
The affected trains included Phulwaria- Sonepur train at Jagdam College railway crossing, the coach of inspection van stationed at Chhapra junction, Gondia down express, down Balia- Sialdah express, etc.
In Chapra town, the crowd ransacked Rajendra College main gate, arson at Daroga Rai Chowk, DM and SP residence. Altogether, about 10 vehicles including buses and CCTVs installed at different shops were damaged.
