BHUBANESWAR: With the south-west
monsoon playing hide-and-seek on its arrival chances, the
IMD, in its latest forecast on Wednesday, said it expects monsoon to advance in parts of the state within the next two-three days.
“The condition continues to remain favourable for the arrival of monsoon in the state. It is expected in southern
Odisha pockets within two days, by June 17,” said H R Biswas, regional head of IMD centre.
Biswas said the state received pre-monsoon showers or thunderstorms at several places in the past 24 hours. Such rainfall activity would continue at many places here during the next four-five days, he added.
Biswas said rainfall in the past 24 hours brought down the mercury level in parts of the state that were reeling from heatwave conditions. The daytime temperature at only two places touched 40 degrees Celsius.
Balangir recorded the highest 41.2°C, the IMD report said. The state capital recorded a maximum of 36.3°C.
Biswas said the day temperature would see a continuous fall due to rainfall activities. He said rainfall activity experienced in the state in the last two days also led to a slight decrease in the overall rain deficit from 77% to 73% on Wednesday. He hoped that it would improve further in the coming days.
