Bihar: Patliputra University nod for PG teaching at 21 constituent colleges

Patna: Patliputra University (PPU) has approved postgraduate (PG) teaching at its 21 constituent colleges in Patna and Nalanda districts, at its 12th syndicate meeting held under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Prof R K Singh on Wednesday.
The proposal to start PG teaching in Arts, Science and Commerce streams at these colleges was earlier approved by a PPU committee after physical inspection of the colleges and their respective departments.
According to PPU dean of students’ welfare (DSW) Prof A K Nag, the university syndicate approved PG teaching in select subjects in these 21 colleges keeping in view students’ demand. A large number of students, particularly girls, from semi-urban and rural areas will benefit most by the syndicate’s approval, he said.
Besides, the syndicate also approved the proposal to introduce ‘monitored PhD work’, under which research scholars will have to submit progress report after every six months. Research supervisors and subject experts will check the progress of each scholar at regular interval to check plagiarism or repetition of the research content, Prof Nag said.
According to PPU media in-chargeProf B K Mangalam, the syndicate approved the proposal to start BCom vocational courses at the undergraduate level in self-financing mode at 19 colleges from the ensuing academic session to cater to the needs of students.
Among others, BCom teaching in self-financing mode would be started at A N College, College of Commerce, Arts and Science, B D College, Ganga Devi Mahila College, Arvind Mahila College, J D Women’s College, T P S College, B S College, Danapur, Mahila College, Khagaul and J N Lal College, Khagaul, he said.
The syndicate also approved a proposal to bring some changes in the three-year and five-year course of law studies. However, the university has decided to send the related Magadh University ordinance, with proposed changes, to Raj Bhavan for approval in case of PPU too, the media in-charge said.
