KALYAN: A Thane police constable and his brother-in law have been arrested for murdering a 51-year-old woman in
Ulhasnagar after an informer tipped off cops that they were trying to dispose of a body.
They were caught with the body and have been booked for murder and hiding evidence.
Constable Sachin Khajekar, 39, who stays in Subhash Tekdi area in Ulhasnagar, was posted in Aurangabad earlier and apparently had an extramarital affair with deceased Asha More, an Aurangabad resident who worked as a nurse in a private hospital.
Last year, Khajekar was transferred to the Thane commissionerate and shifted to Ulhasnagar. Police sources said More used to demand money and had been pressing for Khajekar to bring her to Ulhasnagar.
Fed up with her demands, Khajekar on Tuesday called her to Ulhasnagar and allegedly strangled her to death in his car. He later called his brother-in-law, Kalpesh Khairnar, to help him to dispose body.
They set off in the car to dump the corpse. "When the accused did not manage to dispose of the body in Nashik, they returned to Ulhasnagar and contacted a person to help him. Coincidentally, he is a police informer," said Prashant Mohite, DCP (Thane Zone 4).
"After our informer tipped off the Vithalwadi police, they laid a trap and arrested the duo. They recovered the body from the car," he added.
