Dasara-like illumination along PM Modi’s convoy route: STS

Mysuru: In a controversial move, Mysuru district in-charge minister ST Somashekar on Wednesday said the government has decided to specially illuminate the Mysuru Palace surroundings and the roads which the PM Modi will take during his visit to the city on June 20 and 21. According to him, the special illumination will be on the scale of Dasara celebrations.
He toured the city areas which are being readied for the PM’s visit and said a sum of Rs 15 crore has been allocated for asphalting of 15 roads and repair of footpaths along the route to be taken by the Prime Minister’s cavalcade. Rs 10 crore has already been released by the government in the first installment, he told reporters.
Onset of monsoon has affected some work, he said, but asserted that the project will be completed this week.
Somashekar said he has directed the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) to specially illuminate the roads and junctions, mainly the palace surroundings, which Modi will take. The power utility will fund the project.
According to him, the state government will assemble 60,000 beneficiaries of various Centre government sponsored schemes at the Maharaja’s College Grounds on June 20. The Centre will decide about the number of people who will interact with the PM during the event, he added.
