Police to increase night beats at KIMS quarters after several thefts

Hubballi: In the wake of increasing theft cases in KIMS staff quarters, many employees of KIMS have expressed apprehension and have sought better security to their lives and properties.
After the series of thefts, police have finally decided to increase night beats and deploy Hoysala vehicle in the vicinity of the staff quarters. KIMS authorities have also planned to strengthen security measures in and around the staff quarters to curb theft cases.
KIMS director Dr Ramalingappa Antartani told TOI, “We plan to increase the height of the compound wall which will be fenced to prevent thieves from sneaking into the staff quarters and we will also deploy our own security men to guard the staff quarters round the clock in the next couple of days.”
“We have requested the police department several times to provide proper security to our staff quarters and trace the accused in the theft cases, but it did not yield results. We have already installed CCTV cameras at the entrance and other places. If needed, more CCTVs will be installed,” he added.
Sources said KIMS authorities should keep a tab on those who are staying in the staff quarters as outsiders are also staying without permission and there are no proper checks on it.
“The staff quarters should be reserved for the hospital staff only. But now, those who are not staff are also staying in the quarters. This should be verified by KIMS authorities to curb theft cases. This apart, there are more entry and exit points, which should be monitored by authorities,” said a source.
When contacted, Mahantesh Holi, the police inspector, Vidyanagar police station said, “Earlier we had a meeting with KIMS and requested them to install at least 40 CCTV cameras at strategic points identified by the police department, but they have installed only 9-10 cameras wherever it was of their convenience.”
“Despite our requests, staff who go out of the station after locking their houses are not informing police before leaving. We are once again creating awareness among staff to keep us informed if they go out so that we keep an eye on such locked houses and we are also increasing night beats to prevent thefts in future,” he said.
“Of the four theft cases reported in the last year, we have solved two cases and we have intensified the investigation to crack the recent theft cases reported in KIMS staff quarters,” he said.
