Farmers’ Federation state unit chief Kurubur Shanthakumar on Wednesday said that members of the federation will hold demonstration near the idol of
Mahatma Gandhi located behind district court in Mysuru on June 20 to grab the attention of the Union government to bring a legislation to guarantee Minimum Support Price (
MSP) for crops.
Speaking to reporters here, he said his federation will also observe this day as Farmers’ Day by selling crops and vegetables grown by farmers at the same venue.
He condemned the Union government for not implementing the recommendations of the M S Swaminathan Commission to provide MSP for crops. The Modi government has also exposed his double standards on this issue of providing MSP, he said.
He also warned of staging protests in front of the regional office of
RBI in Bengaluru if the Union government fails to withdraw its order of demanding CIBIL score to sanction loans for farmers.
He also lashed out at crop insurance companies for demanding farmers to pay a premium amount when they failed to clear Rs 200 crore crop insurance dues to farmers.
He said the State Sugarcane Growers Association has demanded the state government to provide Rs 3,500 per ton of sugarcane supply to sugar mills along the lines of
Uttar Pradesh government, from this year.
