RAJKOT: A 16-year-old son of Ayurvedic practitioner parents, not only foiled a bid to abduct him, but also beat his would-be kidnappers near Nirmala convent road on Tuesday night before he escaped to the safety of his home.
In the melee,
Rohit Khandhediya, the victim also received minor injuries, but later went by himself to Gandhigram police station late on Tuesday night to file an FIR in the incident.
Son of Dr Jignesh and
Dr Hema who run a clinic in the city told the police that the incident occurred when his parents were at the clinic and his elder sister too wasn’t home. He was with his grandmother at home when at around 8.30pm he got a call from an unknown number asking him to come outside and collect a parcel. “When I went outside my bungalow, I saw a white van parked some distance away and a man standing near the footpath with some packets. When I went to collect the packet, the man gripped my hand and another person came out of the van and both tried to drag me inside the van,”
Rohit stated in his FIR. According to the police, Rohit is slightly heavyset which may have forced a third person to come out from the van to drag him in, said cops. However, by that time Rohit started screaming and also struggle to free himself from the kidnappers’ grip. His screaming scared the kidnappers and their grip slackened and getting a chance Rohit hit them and also got himself freed before running home.
The van without registration plate also left the spot immediately, said Rohit, who then called his parents to inform the police about this incident.
The local police along with the crime branch and special operation group rushed to the doctor’s house. The police have explored all the
CCTV footage and a team is sent to Ahmedabad and another to
Jamangar to nab the perpetrators. G M Hadiya police inspector of Gandhigram police station said “The boy is in shock and he states that they were unknown people. We are investigating the case using various sources.”
Cops have started investigation from two angles — kidnap bid for ransom demand and another is a possible love affair, sources in police said.
