LUCKNOW: Bringing laurels to the city, Lucknow-based triathlete, Satyam Shanker Sahai, completed his 10th Ironman on June 12 in Cairns, Australia.
Ironman is an endurance event that comprises 3.8km swim, 180km ride and 42.2km run which makes it a total of 226km to be covered in 16 hours. Satyam completed the drill in 13.31 hours. His best time has been 11.58 hours at Kalmar, Sweden, in 2019.
Ironman Cairns involved an ocean swim in the Pacific followed by a hilly biking course and finally a run along the sea. The Ironman event involves a lot of preparation, both physical and mental, as it is quite challenging.
In the past, Satyam has participated in events in the USA, Germany, Dubai, Sweden and Western Australia. The pandemic made his preparation difficult with limited availability of sporting and swimming facilities.
Satyam had been adjudicated runners up in Grasim Mr India in 2003 and also runner up in best physique in the same pageant. He runs an educational institute in 13 cities headquartered in Lucknow.
