India reports 8,822 new Covid-19 cases, 15 deaths in last 24 hours

NEW DELHI: India on Wednesday reported a total of 8,822 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the total tally of coronavirus cases in the country since the start of the pandemic to 4,32,45,517.

India's active cases shot up to 53,637, an increase from 50,548 recorded the previous day, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday morning.
An increase of 3,089 cases has been recorded in the last 24 hours, the data showed. The active cases now stand at 0.12 per cent of the total infections.

With 15 official deaths related to coronavirus reported in the last 24 hours, the country's death toll has climbed to 5,24,792 since the start of the pandemic, according to the ministry.

The government of India further reported that 5,718 patients recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients is now at 4,26,67,088. India’s recovery rate stands at 98.66%.
The daily positivity rate has been recorded at 2 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was also recorded at 2.35 per cent.
The last 24 hours saw a total of 4,40,278 Covid-19 tests being conducted across the country. India has so far conducted 85,58,71,030 cumulative tests since the start of the pandemic in 2020.
The vaccination coverage in India has so far been administered to 1,95,50,87,271, as per provisional reports updated till Wednesday morning.
India's Covid-19 tally had crossed the one-crore mark in December, 2020. The country crossed the grim milestone of two crore in May, last year and three crore in June, 2021.
