KOLKATA: YouTuber Anirban Roy, popularly known as Roddur Roy, has been arrested in a second case—registered at the Burtolla police station in 2020 against “offensive” posts about PM Narendra Modi—and sent to police custody till next Monday. Roy was produced in another court for his comments against CM Mamata Banerjee, state police and senior ministers for which he was sent to two-week judicial custody.
Police sources said the Burtola case was lodged on June 8, 2020 by a resident, Sushanta Aish, in which he alleged that Roy had made derogatory remarks against Modi. The police had initiated a case under IPC sections 153, 153B, 189, 504 and 505 (1B). Roy was produced in the court of additional chief metropolitan magistrate in this case. Roy was brought to court but not physically present for this hearing. Like in the Hare Street case, a pen drive was produced to show “evidence” of the “offensive videos” posted allegedly by Roy. The defence questioned the delay in lodging the case and the sections slapped.
The Hare Street case hearing took place at CMM court.
