Coimbatore: The special court for the trial of bomb blast cases on Tuesday sentenced a 52-year-old cattle trader to life imprisonment for murdering a construction worker over a parking lot dispute at Kalappanaickenpalayam near Vadavalli here on March 27, 2016.
A court source identified the convict as R
Subramanian alias Mottaiyan, of Kalappanaickenpalayam. “Around 8am on the fateful day, R Manikandan, 18, of Ponni Nagar, and his friend G Murugan alias Daniel, 19, of Somayanur near Thadagam, were chatting near Athanur Amman Temple at Kalappanaickenpalayam after parking their motorcycles in front of it. Both of them were construction workers. Subramanian reached there in his goods auto and asked
Manikandan to park his motorcycle somewhere else, stating that was his usual parking slot.”
When Manikandan refused to move his motorcycle from there, the source said, a quarrel arose between them. Immediately, local people intervened and pacified the trio, who left the spot.
Around 4.30pm the same day, the source said, Subramanian confronted the duo near the temple and beat Manikandan on his head with a wooden log. “Daniel tried to stop him but he was also thrashed. When villagers rushed to the spot,
Subrmanian managed to escape.”
Manikandan was taken to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital, where he died without responding to treatment the next day.
Based on a compliant from the family of Manikandan, the
Vadvalli police registered a murder case against Subramanian and arrested him. On Tuesday, judge D Balu pronounced the verdict and sentenced Subramanian to life imprisonment. The judge also imposed a fine of 7,500 on him. tnn
