Gehlot alleged that the
Modi government at the Centre is muzzling dissent and the country is in a similar situation where
Hitler unleashed fascism in Germany. He repeated the charge that democracy and freedom are in danger in the country under Modi.
He said the chief ministers were not even allowed to visit the other leaders who were detained in police stations. He said that Congress leaders from other states were not allowed entry in Delhi and Rajasthan PCC president Govind Singh Dotasra was detained on way to Delhi.
Chief minister while talking to the media in Delhi after ED summoned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for a second consecutive day said that the National Herald case which was closed by the ED in 2015 and has been reopened as part of a conspiracy to harass Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. He claimed that the shares of the National Herald were transferred to Young India under a trust which is a non-profitable organisation after the newspaper was in bankruptcy. When there is no money, where is money laundering, he asked. Gehlot said the country is in the grip of fear and people were being intimidated by unleashing the terror of central agencies on those who did not fall in line with the ruling dispensation at the centre.
He said intellectuals and journalists were being put behind bars under sedition while bulldozer justice is being handed out as state has usurped the powers of courts.
Earlier speaking to reporters, he alleged that corruption has become rampant under the present government. “You cannot imagine the magnitude of corruption that has spread in the country in the eight years. Along with my personal information and what I hear from industrialists, and businessmen, you cannot imagine the magnitude of corruption happening. But the ED doesn't pay attention to it.
The chief minister said he wanted to meet the head of ED, IT and CBI directors but was denied permission.
Gehlot also accused the BJP of spreading communalism and poisoning the minds of the people on religious lines. He requested the PM to appeal to the people to shun violence in the name of religion in the country.
