JAIPUR: A team of Anti-Corruption Bureau (
ACB) on Tuesday arrested a superintendent and an inspector of
Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST),
Alwar from Bharatpur with bribe money of Rs 4 lakh. They took the bribe from a trader in lieu of not making any case of outstanding CGST against the trader.
B L Soni, director general, ACB stated that this was a unique and different kind of trap as the evidence included
CCTV footage against both the arrested accused.
“The trader had called up our unit stating that two officers identified as Dhanraj Kumawat, the superintendent and Vinay Yadav, the inspector, both posted at CGST, Alwar barged into his office on Tuesday. Both the officers had demanded Rs 10 lakh as bribe and threatened that if the bribe was not paid they would implicate him in a case in which he will have to pay extra CGST. We asked the trader to hold them for a while and the trader informed us that he had CCTV installed at his office,” Soni added.
After the negotiations, the trader agreed upon giving Rs 4 lakh as bribe. “As both the officers left with the bribe money of Rs 4 lakh in a vehicle from Bharatpur to Alwar, the trader informed us. Our team with independent four witnesses searched the vehicle and found Rs 4 lakh. Both failed to give satisfactory answers on the money and were arrested,” Soni added.
The ACB team intercepted the vehicle and made searches. A case under appropriate sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been lodged against them. “On Wednesday we will make searches at their office and residential premises,” Soni added. Further investigation in the case was underway.
