NAGPUR: Three sisters, aged between six and 12 years, were rescued and reunited with their family by Hudkeshwar police a couple of weeks ago, after they were found loitering at 3.30am in a lane near Manewada Square. The girls had left home after the rest of the family had gone to sleep, but were unsure where they were heading.
The girls, spotted with school bags on their backs, were first spotted by Ajni police team on anti-theft patrolling duty. The Ajni cops alerted their Hudkeshwar counterparts, who had senior inspector Kavita Isarkar, a former CBI cop, on night round duty. The cops were relieved when the girls were handed over to their parents and family members without falling into the trap of any racketeers.
Isarkar and her team were first left hassled by the sisters, who were unwilling to share the address and mobile numbers of their parents out of fear. “The girls belonged to a family of migrant workers, who had recently moved into a rented house at Narsala. Hence, they were not able to recall the exact location. Thankfully, one of the three revealed her father’s cellphone number, which helped cops to contact them,” said Isarkar, a journalist-turned-cop. She added the family was fast asleep when the cops called, unaware the three girls had left home.
Isarkar said the eldest of the three sisters wanted to meet a friend but she wasn’t aware about her address. “The girls had no clue where they were heading with school bags and clothes. They just knew a friend’s name but not her address. It was an adventurous step for them,” she said.
Isarkar said the family members were counselled after being brought to the police station. “We told the parents not to scold the girls or take any harsh step with them. The family members were told to interact more with the girls, and have an open communication channel with them,” said the senior inspector, adding the girls too were made aware about the possibility of landing in vicious trap of traffickers and such rackets.
