Delhi-NCR News Live Updates: 45% jump in new Covid-19 cases in single day in Gurugram

The city reported 345 new Covid cases on Wednesday, a 45. 5% jump from the previous day when it had 279 cases. The positivity rate also rose to 9. 6% from 7%. The city now has 1,390 active cases. The rate of hospitalisation is still low, according to the health department, with 12 patients in institutional care. The health department data shows that Gurugram reported 100-150 new cases daily from June 1 to June 8. Remove archaic language from FIRs and property papers: Delhi LG

To make the language of legal documents such as FIRs and property registration papers easy to understand for the public, lieutenant governor V K Saxena on Wednesday directed police, land and revenue officials to replace the archaic language with their contemporary version.“The LG is of the view that archaic language being used in documents of various departments, particularly police, land and revenue departments, sub-registrar’s office, Delhi Development Authority and lower judiciary, needs to be changed and updated as per contemporary linguistic needs of the people,” said an official privy to the development regarding “ease of doing business”.

DU grads in 2021 to be first to get degrees same year

The students who graduate in 2021 from Delhi University (DU) will be the first to receive their degrees in the same year as the convocation was held. The move is a part of an initiative by the university to reduce the waiting time for degrees, as earlier, students had to wait for 3-4 years before the degree was made available.

Covid-19 cases continued to show an upward trend with 1,375 new cases and positivity rate soaring to 7. 01% on Wednesday. However, no death was reported. On Tuesday, the positivity rate was 6. 5%, while on Monday it was 7. 06%. On Tuesday, Delhi saw a huge jump with 1,118 cases compared with 614 on Monday.

Jahangirpuri riots: No bail for teen identified infootage

A Delhi court has dismissed the bail plea of a man arrested in connection with the Jahangirpuri riots, saying an eyewitness and video footage have identified him.Additional sessions judge Gagandeep Singh said the statement of the eyewitness prima facie reflected the role of the accused, Jahid, in the riots that took place on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.“The material investigation in the present case is still under way, and several offenders who were involved in the unfortunate riots are yet to be apprehended,” the court said in an order on June 7.

Delhi: Weatherman predicts light rain from today

After a dip in temperature recorded on Tuesday in the capital, the maximum temperature again rose on Wednesday. The day temperature was recorded at 42.2 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal, at Safdarjung, the city’s base station. It was 2.6 degrees Celsius higher than Tuesday’s maximum temperature. However, respite is expected from Thursday as rain is likely to bring down the day temperature below 40 degrees Celsius.
