BEGUSARAI: A veterinary doctor was allegedly kidnapped and forced to marry a girl in Begusarai district Monday night. On Tuesday, the family members received a video from his cellphone number in which he is seen getting married. They have lodged a complaint of forced marriage (Pakadua vivah) with the police.
The doctor, named Satyam, had left his home at
Pidhauli village under
Teghra police station area to treat an animal on Monday evening, but he did not return. His father
Subodh Kumar Jha alleged that Satyam had been kidnapped and forcefully married.
The video, which went viral on social media, shows Satyam sitting with the 'bride' surrounded by a few women and the priest chanting marriage hymns.
Teghra police station SHO Sanjay Kumar said Satyam returned home on Tuesday evening. He said the alleged marriage was solemnised at
Mortar village under
Garhpura police station area in Begusarai district.
"As per police investigation till now, Satyam used to visit the girl's house for treating the cattle. Both liked each other. On Monday, he was called by the girl's family and married off. The video was filmed at the girl's aunt house," he said.
The SHO said only Satyam could say whether he was married forcefully or as per his own will.
