Nagpur: Hundreds of Nagpur University first semester students are in a quandary as their results are pending for over three months. Officials from NU exam section passed the buck to Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited’s (MKCL), which failed to put its system in place and messed up the entire exam work like in its earlier tenure with NU.
On account of this inordinate delay, NU has not declared its second semester exam timetable, even as students keep on asking queries.
On May 12, TOI had reported how NU’s results are again hogging the limelight as over 150 were delayed beyond two months due to MKCL’s mess, even though the papers were held online. The newspaper exposed how the Pune-based company, which was blacklisted by many universities, including NU, was illegally roped in by vice chancellor Subhash Chaudhari, without floating any tender, which is mandatory as per the accounts code.
Many students approached NU officials with queries on results, but the latter did not respond, stating that even they were not aware of it. They advised the students to approach the VC’s office with all their grievances.
TOI’s calls to pro-VC Sanjay Dudhe went unanswered, while the VC could not be contacted. Board of Examination and Evaluation (BOEE) director Prafulla Sable has also avoided queries from the media, and did not pick up TOI’s repeated calls over various issues.
Officials told TOI that MKCL had outsourced the work to an agency at Pannase Layout, which is owned by a person close to the VC.
Quoting NU Senate members, TOI had exposed how the VC went out of the way to take MKCL’s personal guarantee during a Senate meeting on November 13, despite staunch opposition from not only Senate members, but also from the Management Council.
Senate members in their complaint to chancellor BS Koshyari and education minister Uday Samant had alleged that VC had awarded MKCL contract to his close ally, who was earlier nominated on the Board of Studies (BOS) of Information Technology by him.

MKCL contract set to be extended beyond Aug
Management Council members have revealed that MKCL’s contract was extended only for one year, and it is expiring on August 31, as per the decision made in Management Council. However, NU provided pre-examination work for the new academic session starting next month also to the same firm.
As the council’s five-year team was also coming to an end on the same date, the VC would get all its powers and therefore, MKCL’s contract is set to be extended further, the members said.
Education minister Uday Samant had assured to probe MKCL’s affairs after a complaint by the Senate members in this regard, but nothing has progressed till date.
