Nagpur: Octogenarian farmer killed in lightning strike
An 86-year-old farmer died after being struck by lightning at a village located around 30 kms from Nagpur city of Maharashtra, police said on Wednesday. The incident occurred on around 4pm on Tuesday at Hiwara-Hiwari village under the jurisdiction of Bela police station, he said. (PTI)
Mumbai: Four disabled persons arrested for 'gang-rape'
Four disabled persons including a man with hundred percent visual impairment have been arrested here for allegedly raping a 19-year-old woman, police said on Wednesday. One of the accused is a relative of the woman, said an official of Nehrunagar police station in suburban Kurla. Sometime in April, this relative took the woman to his house in Shivaji Nagar locality, where she was given liquor to drink. Later, he and four of his friends allegedly raped her, the official said.
Mumbai logs nearly 2,300 new Covid-19 cases, highest since January 23
Mumbai on Wednesday reported 2,293 new COVID-19 cases, up by 569 from a day ago and the highest daily count registered since January 23, while one more patient succumbed to the infection, the city civic body said. Minister Anil Parab fails to appear before ED in money laundering case
Maharashtra transport minister and senior Shiv Sena leader Anil Parab did not appear before the Enforcement Directorate here on Wednesday in connection with a money laundering case, an ED official said. The central agency had summoned Parab for questioning at its zonal office here in a probe linked to alleged violation of coastal regulation zone provisions in the construction of a resort at coastal Dapoli in Ratnagiri district. Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded 4,024 new coronavirus cases, a 36 per cent rise over the previous day, and two pandemic-related deaths, the state health department said. Four new cases of B.A.5 variant of coronavirus were also detected in the state, it added.
Four more patients infected with Omicron’s BA.5 variant have been reported from Maharashtera. These patients are from Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Pune. All are women in the age group of 19 to 36 years. They were found Covid positive between May 26 to June 9 following which their samples were sent for genome sequencing. All are stable, state’s public health department said.
Cop in relation with woman kills her for demanding money in Thane district; held
A police constable allegedly strangled a 51-year-old nurse he was in a relationship with to death in Maharashtra's Thane district on Wednesday, police said, adding the accused was arrested with his relative for trying to dispose of the body. The investigation revealed that the prime accused, Sachin Khajekar (39), was fed up with the woman's demands for money, an investigating officer said. (PTI)
