HYDERABAD: An Innova used by a gang of inter-state drug traffickers to transport
ganja met with an accident on the Outer Ring Road (
ORR) at
Keesara on Monday. Two peddlers sustained grievous injuries while two of their associates managed to escape from the spot. Police seized 300 kg ganja worth 2.5 crore.
The accused had a siren installed on the vehicle and they had also stuck a government vehicle sticker on the Innova to fool the cops.
According to the police, at around 6.30 am, the Innova rammed into a truck from behind on the ORR. "The Innova was travelling from Keesara towards Medchal and the accident occurred near Leonia resort at Yadgaripally while the driver of the Innova attempted to overtake the truck at speed," Kushaiguda
ACP Shiva Kumar said.
There were four peddlers in the Innova at the time of the accident and two of them, Shivam Dubey, 25, and Durgesh Pandey, 32, from Pratapgarh in UP sustained severe injuries. Police rushed them to a hospital in Secunderabad. Two other accused, Sony Pandey, 28, of UP and their associate, who is yet to be identified, managed to escape. "The gang was transporting ganja from Araku area in AP to UP," Keesara police said. Police launched a manhunt to nab the absconding accused.
