Kota: A ward councillor of
Kota Municipal Corporation (KMC) belonging to
Bharatiya Janata Party (
BJP) resigned from the party on Monday saying she was dissatisfied by the party’s stand on the controversial comments made by the now-suspended national spokesperson,
Nupur Sharma.
Tabassum Mirza, who was elected councillor of ward No. 14 in KMC-South, sent her resignation letter to BJP district president Krishan Kumar Soni, saying she was resigning from the party’s primary membership.
However, he denied having received her resignation.
“Since the disgraceful comments on the Nabi made by the party’s national spokesperson Nupur Sharma in a TV debate are beyond tolerance levels, I am resigning from the primary membership of the party. This is to inform you that I should not be treated as a party member and ward councillor any more,” wrote Mirza in her letter.
In a separate letter to state BJP chief Satish Punia, Mirza expressed regrets about being a member of the party. TNN
