Daltonganj: The district administration has banned a particular brand of wafers after two children fell sick on Sunday and two others died earlier this month after consuming it allegedly, district food safety officer
Law Kumar Gupta said on Monday.
The deceased girls – aged five and 18 months – hailed from Chandwa. They died between June 7 and 5 during the course of their treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims), Ranchi. “On behalf of the civil surgeon (Dr Haren
Chandra Mahto), I have written to the medical superintendent of Rims, requesting for the post mortem reports and a case study,” Latehar health official
Ved Prakash said.
The ones who fell sick – a boy (3) and a girl (5), who are siblings and belong to Balumath -- are currently admitted at Rims and their condition is stable, the circle officer of Balumath,
Aftab Alam, said.
Gupta said they have sent the wafer samples to the state food testing lab in Namkum and the report is awaited.
“If the report points to foul play, then criminal proceedings will be initiated against the manufacturer, distributor and retailer of that brand,” he added. TNN
