Grand welcome for Gumla athlete

Gumla: Gumla-based athlete Supriti Kachhap, who bagged a gold medal for Jharkhand last week at the Khelo India Youth Athletics in Haryana by setting a national record in the U-18 3000-metre race by clocking 9.46.14 minutes, was given a rousing welcome by the administration upon her return to the district on Monday.
Lauding her achievement, DC Sushant Gaurav said, “It’s a moment of pride for us that we could felicitate her. Her accomplishments will inspire other girls and boys to do better despite all odds.”
A resident of Burhu village under Ghaghra block, Kachhap had lost her father, R Oraon, a few years ago in a Maoist attack. Her mother, Balmati Devi, is a Grade IV employee in the district administration.
On Sunday, district sports officer, Hemlata Boon, and Ghaghra police station’s officer in-charge, Rituraj Pranav Kumar, visited Kachhap’s home and felicitated her mother.
