SSG doctors remove rare benign tumour

Vadodara: A rare case of suprasellar Rathke’s celf cyst, a form of benign tumour, was successfully operated at the department of neurosurgery at state-run SSG Hospital.
Patients suffering from this rare tumour usually have headaches and blurring of vision.
The 25-year-old woman Vimala Tadpada, a native of Salol village of Anand’s Borsad taluka, had approached the neurosurgery department’s OPD at SSG Hospital with a complaint of blurred vision.
“Tadpada’s MRI revealed that she had an entirely suprasellar Rathke’s celf cyst, which is of rare type amongst all types of Rathke’s cyst,” said Dr Amey Patankar, who along with Dr Shivani Chaudhary co-authored the case report that has been published by the Egyptian journal of neurosurgery.
“The patient underwent a craniotomy and complete resection of the cyst on December 1, 2021. Her vision improved to normal and she was discharged after five days of surgery,” said Patankar. The hospital shared details of the surgery on Monday.
The pathology diagnosis was done by SSG hospital’s department of pathology. “On studying this case, we found it to be rare and submitted it to a journal,” said Chaudhary.
