Puri seer lays stress on tolerance

Jamshedpur: Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati, who is in Jamshedpur to take part in a two-day Hindu religious function, which began on Sunday, has condemned the recent violence saying the administration could have handled the situation better.
“Such incidents should not have happened. The administration should have been more vigilant and alert to handle such a crisis,” he said on Monday.
He stressed that human life is very precious and must be protected at all cost. He expressed concern over the growing intolerance, which is leading to a lot of friction. He advised that one has to shun such behaviour. Boundaries have to be set and they cannot be crossed, he added.
Puri Shankaracharya, addressing a gathering which was attended by a few thousand devotees, who waited patiently for hours in the sweltering heat and humid conditions to see and hear him, said to get true knowledge, one has read the Vedas. He stressed on the importance of learning Vedic mathematics. He said the education imparted in schools is not enough and emphasised on the need to acquire diverse knowledge.
Talking about India becoming a Hindu rashtra, the seer said Muslims, too, have a place in it. He expressed disappointment over the manner in which India was divided by the British. He added that friction between the Hindus and the Muslims even today is an outcome of the British policy of divide and rule.
