JAIPUR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said on Monday that it arrested a junior engineer with the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in Jaipur while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000. The accused had allegedly demanded and accepted the bribe in exchange of clearing a firm’s bills of Rs 5 lakh.
DG (ACB) BL Soni said a complainant had approached the bureau’s headquarters alleging that the accused, Gyan Prakash Shukla, had been demanding a bribe of Rs 1.28 lakh for clearing his pending bills of nearly Rs 5 lakh. “The accused had already taken Rs 26,000 from the complainant. Our team verified the complaint and laid a trap. The accused was arrested while accepting the bribe,” added Soni.
An ACB team reached Shukla’s office on Monday afternoon and caught him red handed. Soon after his arrest, searches were conducted at Shukla’s office and residential premises in Jaipur. A case under appropriate sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has also been lodged against him, said Soni.
ACB sources said the possible role of other SSA officials in this bribery case was also being probed. Further investigation in the case is on, said an ACB official.
