KOLKATA: The presence of mind of a
Vidyasagar Traffic guard officer and quick response from the military intelligence wing led to the arrest of three persons in the city from near Fort William on Tuesday after they posed as senior Army officers and were asking for money for a job in the Indian Army.
The accused — Md Akbar (45) from Nadial, Ashok Nayek (50) from BNR and
Pankaj Kr Gupta (32) from
Rabindra Nagar — were put under arrest for trying to dupe four youths from Bihar.
“I was returning from duty when I saw four youths trying to intercept three men travelling in a luxury taxi at Strand Road near Gwalior Ghat. The youths told me the accused were trying to charge money for them for Army jobs. One of the accused was in uniform and I asked for his ID card. I saw he was getting nervous. When I put pressure, he revealed he was a fraud," said sergeant Sujoy Saha who intercepted the accused.
Soon officials from military intelligence reached too.
The probe found that the victims were brought to the said place by Gupta from Howrah railway station for their medical test for their appointments in the Army in the post of GD.
Akbar was sitting inside the taxi in the uniform of an Army Major.
Nayek was the driver of the said taxi.
