Mangaluru: The
Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has demanded that a case be booked against the educational institution for the death of
Poorvaj R, a Class 9 student hailing from Hoskote in Bengaluru.
The 14-year-old allegedly hanged himself in the hostel room in a private school in Ullal police limits on Sunday.
The exact reason behind the boy’s extreme step is not known, but there were allegations that he was upset after he was not allowed to call home on his mother’s birthday on Saturday. City police commissioner
N Shashi Kumar said the case is under investigation.
DYFI district secretary
Santhosh Bajal alleged the management of the school was responsible for Poorvaj’s death.
“This is not the first incident that is being reported in private educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada. A few institutes have been fleecing middle and upper-class parents from other districts. Meanwhile, students are made to study for 14-16 hours a day without proper rest. Denying the use of phones to talk to their parents leads to depression among children,” Bajal said, demanding action against the school management.
