GUWAHATI: After Assam Police found an alleged link of Popular Front of India (PFI) with a Bangladesh-based radical Islamic group, right-wing organisation Rashtriya Bajrang Dal (RBD) on Monday protested in Guwahati demanding a ban on PFI in the state.
Revealing the link of PFI and Ansar ul-Islam, additional director general of police (special branch) Hiren Nath recently said, “The modus operandi of the group (PFI) is to hold demonstrations on anything happening across the country even if it doesn’t have anything to do with the state”. “Any minor issue involving the minority community will be termed by them as an attack on the community, which is a sort of provocation. We won’t allow this. We’re keeping an eye on their activities,” he added.
The group alleged that PFI has spread its tentacles in Muslim-dominated districts of Assam, including Barpeta, Dhubri, Hojai, Morigaon and Nagaon, to radicalise youths towards jihadi activities. Dinesh Kalita, president of the Assam wing of RBD, said: “According to our information, PFI is active in Muslim-majority areas in 10 districts of the state.”
