GURUGRAM: Snatchers targeted a 45-year-old woman while she was out on a morning walk in Sushant Lok area of the city earlier this month — adding to the series of similar thefts in the past few weeks.
Police said on Monday that two men snatched a gold chain that Sonia Malhotra, a resident of Sushant Lok-1, was wearing while she was walking with her husband near Mehdi Park around 6.40am on June 2.
“We had to go out of the city for some important work, that’s why we couldn’t register a complaint earlier,” the woman’s husband Bhupesh told the police.
According to the complaint, the couple noticed that a youngster was walking behind them. He suddenly gathered pace, snatched Sonia’s chain and ran to his accomplice who was waiting on a motorcycle nearby. The two accused fled while the couple raised an alarm.
Police are scanning CCTV footage of the area. An FIR was lodged on Sunday against the two unidentified men at Sushant Lok police station. They have been booked under sections 379A (snatching) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.
This is the latest snatching incident among morning walkers in the last two months. On May 26, the senior executive of a multinational company was robbed of his chain while on a morning walk near the Golf Course Road. The same day, a bank manager’s gold chain was snatched near Galleria market where he was cycling. The accused in both the cases were later arrested.
