KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court on Monday turned down a petition seeking directions on
Calcutta University to conduct online examinations.
Four students had moved the HC saying they wanted the examinations to be held in both offline and online mode, which students could choose from. They also urged the HC to direct the university not to discriminate between those who opt for online and offline.
CU’s lawyers
Sandeep Dasgupta and
Abhratosh Majumdar argued before Justice
Kausik Chanda that the CU syndicate has already ratified a proposal by the university’s undergraduate and postgraduate council to conduct offline examinations. This, they said, has been endorsed by most college principals.
Dasgupta said, “We informed the court that the CU will conduct offline examinations and there will be no discrimination as alleged.”
The petition by the CU students alleged that their syllabus has not been completed. The petition mentioned that the state had also advised the university that it could choose between online and offline examinations. The petition claimed that MAKAUT and IIT were conducting online examinations.
