4WD will be offered with both petrol and diesel powertrains.
It’ll have hardware such as a mechanical locking differential, brake locking front differential, solid rear axle and independent front suspension.
The Mahindra Scorpio N will be launched on June 27.
Prices are expected to start at Rs 12 lakh, but the 4Xplor variant should command a hefty premium.
Higher-spec variants of the upcoming Mahindra Scorpio N will get a four-wheel drive (4WD) option, and we can now confirm that the 4WD SUV will be called the “Scorpio N 4Xplor”. It will go on sale later this month, with prices expected to start from Rs 12 lakh onwards (ex-showroom).
The Scorpio N 4Xplor’s four-wheel-drive system has high and low ratios, easily switchable on-the-fly from centre console-mounted switches. There’s also a terrain mode dial for different kinds of slippery surfaces such as rock, sand, mud and snow.
The Mahindra Thar is a capable off-roader
As for the hardware, it’ll be similar to the Mahindra Thar’s 4WD setup, with independent front suspension and a solid rear axle. In addition to the 4WD system, the Scorpio N will have systems such as hill descent control, a mechanical locking rear differential and brake-locking front differential for off-roading as well off-roading stats on the infotainment system like the Thar.
Under the bonnet, the Mahindra Scorpio N 4Xplor will be offered with a 170PS 2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine in 130PS and 160PS states of tune. It has a standard 6-speed manual transmission and an optional 6-speed automatic.

The Mahindra Scorpio N 4XPlor will have no direct 4WD rivals, since most other similarly priced SUVs offer either front-wheel drive, such as the Hyundai Alcazar and Tata Safari. It’ll likely be priced at a hefty premium over the standard rear wheel drive variants. The Scorpio N is expected to retail from Rs 12 lakh onwards (ex-showroom).
