JAIPUR: The 23-year-old complainant in the
Rohit Joshi rape case alleged that she was attacked by two masked men who threw ink at her and threatened her to withdraw the case on Saturday night in New Delhi.
The woman's Jaipur-based counsel, Nasroodeen
Khan, said that she was immediately taken to the AIIMS trauma centre for treatment and medical examination.
The national capital's Shaheen Bagh police registered an FIR under various IPC sections, including criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt, after recording the woman's statement. Police said that, prima facie, the liquid that was thrown at her looked like ink.
The woman alleged that she had come to Delhi about four days ago accompanied by her mother in connection with the rape case that she had filed against Rajasthan cabinet minister
Mahesh Joshi's son Rohit on May 8 at
Sadar Bazar police station.
Upon arrival, she had first checked into a hotel with her mother but faced problems due to electricity there. She then went to a different hotel for a room on Saturday late evening.
After booking a room at the new hotel, she was returning to her earlier one to take her luggage. While she was walking on the street with her mother to call a taxi, two masked men intercepted her in an autorickshaw between 9.30pm to 10pm and threw something at her and told her to withdraw the case, she alleged. They threatened her saying that this was just a "trailer" and pushed her before fleeing from the scene.
"Her condition is stable now, she has been discharged from the hospital and was very scared after the incident," Khan said.
Last Thursday, a Tis Hazari court had granted anticipatory bail to Rohit and directed him to appear before the investigation officer (IO). He underwent two extensive rounds of interrogation at New Delhi's Sadar Bazar police on Friday and Saturday.
"We are going to challenge the accused's bail in view of the latest incident," Khan claimed.
"Rohit Joshi has no connection with this incident," his counsel Deepak Chouhan said, denying allegations levelled against him.
While the Rajasthan High Court had ordered police security for the rape survivor, Khan said that it was not available in the capital.
