Monsoon to take another 3-4 days to hit Hyderabad: IMD

Thick clouds hover over the city on Sunday evening
HYDERABAD: The wait for monsoons is likely to get longer for Hyderabad. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), it may take up to three to four days more for the rains to arrive.
IMD chief for Hyderabad, K Nagaratna stated that since the rains have not even covered southern peninsular completely, it may well go into mid-week for monsoons to make its way into the entire state.
“Currently monsoon has only covered the region up to Marathwada. It hasn’t covered the complete southern peninsula yet. It will take 3-4 days more for monsoons to cover the entire state,” said Nagaratna. She further stated that while conditions were favourable for monsoon onset, it will take over four days for all conditions to be met. It may be noted that the usual date for the monsoon to arrive in the state is June 8.
However, pre-monsoon conditions have set in, in Hyderabad, with maximum temperatures at just 37 degrees on Sunday. The skies too were dotted with cumulus clouds over the weekend. Met office, Hyderabad notes, “Generally cloud sky. Light to Moderate rains or thunderstorms are very likely to occur in parts of the city towards evening/night.” Meanwhile, owing to higher temperatures, districts like Karimnagar, Jagtial, Mancherial received heavy rains over Sunday with highest rainfall at Madnur in Kamareddy getting up to 86mm of rain. As per the Met office, these rains will cover the entire state only by June 15 and until then, northern districts of the state can continue experiencing higher temperatures.
