Bhiwandi: Mob slaps youth for backing Nupur, police arrest him

BHIWANDI: Police arrested a Bhiwandi youth, Saad Ansari, on Sunday evening after a mob, comprising members of the Muslim community, gathered outside his residence, demanded that he apologise for his post supporting suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and slapped him. On his Instagram page, Ansari allegedly praised Sharma, calling her a "brave lady", for her controversial post against the Prophet.
Bhiwandi zone DCP Yogesh Chavan said Ansari, who comes from a highly educated family, has been booked under the IPC Section 153 (A) for promoting enmity between groups on grounds of religion.
Ansari is pursuing a professional course, while his father is an architect. On learning about the mob gathered outside Ansari's flat, Bhiwandi police, a few local politicians and members of Raza Academy rushed there. After taking stock of the situation, police heeded to the mob's demand and arrested Ansari.
