Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper as the Congress party’s workers and leaders held protests in the Capital. Earlier in the day, the Delhi Police detained Congress workers as they protested outside the AICC headquarters in support of Rahul Gandhi. Meanwhile, the MCD election, which was scheduled for April-May but put on hold due to the unification process, is unlikely to be held this year. The Delhi Municipal Corporation Amendment Act, which unified the three municipal corporations in the national capital, states that the number of seats in the unified corporation will not be more than 250 — down from the existing 272 — and will be determined by the “central government at the time of the establishment of the corporation”. This essentially means that a fresh delimitation exercise will be undertaken.
In other news, leaders of the Delhi BJP Sunday met Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in the national capital, and urged him to supply water to the city from his state. State BJP president Adesh Gupta, who was part of the Delhi BJP delegation, said Khattar assured them of full cooperation on the issue. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday had also urged Haryana to release water, saying that the Yamuna river had dried up.

Ahead of the Congress’s march on Monday to the office of the Enforcement Directorate, which has issued summons to Rahul Gandhi in a money laundering case, the Delhi Police have made special arrangements restricting the movement of several buses and vehicles across the New Delhi district and borders. The police have also imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code Of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in some areas.
The police said the Congress workers’ rally may affect traffic in the city. On Sunday, DCP (New Delhi) Amrutha Guguloth released an order denying permission for the All India Congress Committee (AICC) rally from Akbar Road to the ED office in New Delhi. The order stated that permission could not be granted because of the “communal situation” in Delhi, law and order arrangements and the VVIP security arrangements in the national capital.

To provide direct connectivity between the Supreme Court building and the Pragati Maidan metro station, the Delhi public works department (PWD) is planning to add an arm to the existing ITO skywalk by constructing a foot-overbridge.
“Currently, the ITO skywalk provides direct connectivity from College of Art to Pragati Maidan, ITO and Supreme Court. However, with the corridor development of Pragati Maidan and underpass coming up just near the apex court, the direct connectivity to the metro station has been closed,” said an official.
The official added that the overbridge would be constructed as an additional arm to the existing skywalk. The upcoming pedestrian bridge will most likely connect the Supreme Court with Pragati Maidan metro station Gate number 10, the official added. (Read More)
An association of budget private schools in Delhi has raised concerns over the Directorate of Education (DoE)’s directions to schools to admit all candidates from the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Children with Special Needs (CWSN) allotted to them irrespective of their general admissions, stating that it will place them under further final duress.
In a recent notification, the DoE observed that some private schools are not granting admissions to EWS and CWSN candidates citing fewer admissions in their general seats and ordered that “all Private schools are bound to grant admissions to all eligible EWS/DG & CWSN selected/allotted candidates irrespective of lesser general admissions”.
