NEW DELHI: Ahead of
Rahul Gandhi’s appearance before the ED for questioning,
Congress on Sunday held press meets across the country, accusing the Modi government and the ruling
BJP of indulging in political vendetta with the help of the agencies.
Congress leaders fanned out across states slamming the ED summons to Sonia Gandhi and
Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald-AJL case. They said there was no illegality in the actions to settle the debt of
National Herald newspaper, and the ED decision to question the Congress leadership was a proxy action for the ruling BJP.
Senior Congress leaders will take out a march from party headquarters to the ED office, when Rahul goes for questioning on Monday morning. The party will also hold demonstrations outside the ED offices in states. Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot may also turn up for the protest in the capital.
The Delhi Police, however, has denied permission to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) rally. According to police, keeping in view of the present communal situation in Delhi and heavy law and order and VIP movements in the New Delhi district and existing guidelines, the rally couldn't be permitted in New Delhi district.
Those who addressed the press meets included Sachin Pilot in Lucknow, Vivek Tankha in Raipur, Sanjay Nirupam in Shimla, Ranjeet Ranjan in Chandigarh, Pawan Khera in Ahmedabad and Alka Lamba in Dehradun.
