Pahadi police have arrested an arms
smuggler who was selling countrymade pistol for Rs 16,000 after putting up an advertisement on social media.
A policemen interacted with him as a customer and when the accused came to deliver the gun late on Friday evening, he was arrested. Bharatpur police said similar arrests were made in the past where smugglers are leaving their phone numbers on social media with information and price of a gun.
According to police, the accused identified as Asif (25) had made an ID on the social media on which he had uploaded pictures of some arms including guns and cartridges.
“On his social media account, he had mentioned that whoever wanted to buy countrymade gun or pistol can contact him on a number given by him. When this came to our notice, we planted one of our policemen as a bogus customer to deal with the arms smuggler,” the officer added.
During the telephonic conversation, the arms smuggler was ready to sell a gun for Rs 16,000.
“When Asif came to deliver the gun in the jungle area of
Nikala under Pahadi police station area, he was arrested. The accused would be produced in court and we will apply for his remand to interrogate him on arms smuggling,” the officer added.
Senior officers of Bharatpur police said arms smugglers from Bharatpur’s Kaman, Pahadi and Gopalgarh areas are active on social media through these advertisements. “In some of the cases, it was found that they had just received the money and did not deliver any gun,” the officer added.
