MUMBAI: City police which had arrested the two directors of
Ahuja Constructions,
Jagdish Bhagwandas Ahuja and his son
Gautam Ahuja, in connection with their pending conviction under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act for cheque bouncing were produced before the holiday court, which handed them over to the custody of Arthur Road jail.
The duo was picked up from near the Bombay high court on Friday afternoon after they failed to get relief against their six-month conviction in a lower court.
The 14th
Metropolitan Magistrate Court had convicted the duo in March 2021 and sentenced them to six months’ simple imprisonment in a cheque-bouncing case. The accused had taken a friendly loan of Rs 10 lakh and handed over a cheque that bounced due to insufficient funds. Police said the duo neither filed an appeal against their conviction order nor surrendered before police, due to which their standing warrant was pending.
