Jaipur: Bike-borne criminals snatch city's peace, police clueless

Snatching cases of the last three years till the month of May show a continuous surge
JAIPUR: Snatchers prowling the city streets are becoming increasingly emboldened.
Snatching cases of the last three years till the month of May show a continuous surge. While 27 chain snatchings were reported till May last year, this year the numbers rose to 42.
What is more alarming is the ease with which bike-borne suspects push their victims to the ground to steal valuable items. The first such incident was reported on May 27 when a woman and her mother were pushed by snatchers in Jawahar Nagar.
Harrowing images of two women with injuries on their faces shook the city and rattled the cops. Police arrested the two accused subsequently, but it did little to deter other gangs.
The latest episode of a couple in Adarsh Nagar falling off their scooter after losing balance due to snatchers is a grim reminder of the city police's inept campaign to control the rising menace.
Thugs on bikes are preying on elderly and women on streets, even as the patrolling appears to be lacking in responding to the situation.
Additional commissioner of police (crime) Ajay Pal Lamba said the city police is investigating the case to arrest the accused.
