Three Vadodara cops face action over cheating case

VADODARA: Three personnel from the city police were suspended for alleged involvement in a cheating case that was registered at the Vasad police station in the neighbouring district of Anand.
A woman from the city was duped with fake gold coins in the incident that had been reported to the Vasad police on November 2 last year.
Archana Makwana, a resident of Karelibaug area of the city, had filed the offence stating that the accused had contacted her mother initially and claimed they had a large stash of gold coins. They made several calls and convinced her mother into buying the coins. Makwana and her mother gave them Rs 41 lakh for the coins. It later transpired that the coins were fake and an offence was registered at the Vasad police station.
Investigations in the case led the police to the accused, but it also came to light that they had handed over the money to policemen from Vadodara city. Deputy commissioner of police Panna Momaya said that the three policemen had met the accused after they got the cash and took it from them.
The suspended policemen include police sub-inspector Hitesh Vasava posted at the City police station, lokrakshak Rugnath Dharabhai postedat the Manjalpur police station and constable Amardeepsinh Pratapsinh from the Fatehgunj police station.
