PAK vs WI, 3rd ODI Live Updates: Allrounder Shadab Khan hit a career-best 86 to lift Pakistan to 269-9 after unlikely West Indian hero Nicholas Pooran grabbed four wickets in the third and final one-day international in Multan on Sunday. Pooran turned his arm over only for the second time in his 43-match ODI career to take 4-48 after Pakistan slumped from 85 without loss to 117-5, having won the toss and opted to bat. The innings seemed to have fallen apart with Babar Azam's rare failure for one but Shadab wielded his bat to the best effect. Between a 60-minute dust storm that curtailed the match to 48 overs-a-side, Shadab hit three sixes and four boundaries off 78 balls before being bowled in the last over. Sensing the Multan stadium pitch helping spin, Pooran brought himself up after Fakhar Zaman (35) and Imam-ul-Haq (62) gave Pakistan a solid start. Pooran chipped in with the wickets of Zaman, Haq, Mohammad Rizwan (11) and Mohammad Haris (nought) off just 25 balls, having never taken more than one wicket in his first class career. ...The Chase...
Right then! We saw the spinners getting the purchase and Pakistani spinners will have the talk now. West Indies failed to handle them last time around but they will hope to showcase a better batting performance this time. Say tuned as the chase is coming up next.
Shadab Khan is in for a chat. He says that it was a pressure situation and he only aimed to play normal till the 40th over. Further adds this pitch was much better for batting, but in the end, cricket is a funny game and you never know what happens. Mentions that he never knew Pooran could bowl as well and he took a four-fer. Adds due to his injuries he could not bowl longer spells but currently, he seems to be in a better condition and hope it changes this time.
It is the same story for West Indies throughout the series, spinners have been incredible but the seamers are the ones who fail to ride the momentum. A similar thing happened, the pacers failed to get the breakthrough earlier but once spinners, not one we would see often but Nicholas Pooran, got into the attack. He came out of the syllabus for Pakistan as he ran through the lineup and ended with four wickets. Akeal Hosein was once again economical but other than that, the Windies failed to handle the final phase as Pakistan scored most of their runs at the backend.
From reeling at 117/5 at one stage, Pakistan's lower order has done an incredible job to reach what could prove to be a match-winning score. Pakistan were off to a good start with Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq but once Zaman fell, the wickets started falling like a pack of cards and the hosts were in a spot of bother. After a bit of delay due to a dust-storm, it was the stand between Shadab Khan and Khushdil Shah of 84 that helped Pakistan get back on track. Shah fell in the process but Shadab made sure to give the finishing touches and helped his team reach a defendable score.
So, 52 runs from the last five overs and it is an excellent recovery from Pakistan in this final phase. Shadab Khan particularly was the architect for his team who did all the repair work.
Full length, down leg. Dahani moves to that side and flicks it to wide long on for two runs. PAKISTAN END THEIR INNINGS AT 269/9.
A brilliant yorker this time, right on the money. Ali digs it out solidly and gets across for a single.
It is overpitched, on off. Dahani connects and works it to long off for a single.
Full length, wide outside off. Ali fends it to mid off for a quick single.
Very full, on leg. Dahani hits it down the ground for one.
Shahnawaz Dahani is the last man in.
OUT! TIMBER! A valiant innings by Shadab Khan comes to an end. Jayden Seales goes full and straight at the stumps. Shadab Khan shuffles across and tries to scoop it away but misses. The ball goes through to disturb the stumps. Jayden Seales sends back the man in-form.
A slower one now, into the ribs. Ali ducks and hooks it away to deep square leg for two more. That means Khan will take the strike in the final over.
FOUR! Hasan Ali is off the mark with a boundary. It is full and wide outside off. Hasan Ali reaches out and chips it over backward point for four runs.
Hasan Ali walks out.
OUT! CHOPPED ON! Keemo Paul gets rid of Wasim here. Pakistan lost their eighth wicket now. It is a length ball, outside off. Wasim tries to heave across the line. The ball takes the inside edge and rattles the stumps. Elation for Paul.
FOUR! Mohammad Wasim joins the party now. It is slower one, around middle and leg. Wasim hangs back and pulls it to deep square leg for a boundary. West Indies are all over the place at the moment.
WIDE! Full length, wide outside off, even outside the tramline as the umpire signals a wide.
